THE CATHEDRAL HAS NOT 'CHANGED' ALTAR GIRL POLICY

An April 19 editorial on the use of altar girls said that St. Joseph's Cathedral, where Bishop Edward Head offers Mass, has not made the "change" to this practice.

In fact, our parish census includes few serving-age children, male or female, and no girl has asked to serve at the altar.

We do have nine young men who serve -- a very small number for any church.

Women fill nearly every possible role in the parish, including soloist, choir member, parish bookkeeper, parish secretary, housekeeper, cook, lector, leader of song, usher, minister of the Eucharist, and the heads and members of various committees, with the full knowledge and enthusiastic encouragement of our paster, Bishop Head.
