FIREFIGHTERS RESCUE AMHERST MAN

An Amherst man who refused to jump from his burning duplex later was rescued by firefighters but listed in serious condition this morning, Amherst police said.

Scott Harris, 36, is being treated in the Erie County Medical Center burn treatment unit after being rescued by firefighters from his smoke-filled home at 140 Ayrault Drive.

Firefighters Bryan Phillips and Heinz Maier Jr. of the Getzville Fire Company donned air packs shortly after 4 a.m. to reach Harris, who was found in a second-floor bathroom of the duplex unit, said Getzville Fire Chief Alan Herberger.
