The Teamsters Union here plans to take part in a national Memorial Day demonstration against Consolidated Freightways.
Frank Campanella, president of Teamsters Local 375, said his members and other Teamsters will picket the Consolidated terminal at 877 Niagara St. in Tonawanda beginning at 10 a.m.
The union has picked Memorial Day for the demonstration because, it charged, the company's Emery subsidiary was recently found guilty of overcharging the U.S. Postal Service $2 million for services during Desert Storm. Members of the union who are veterans have been asked to wear their old uniforms.
The company said the overcharge was a result of a disagreement which has been settled.
The Teamsters Union has been battling Consolidated for several months charging it with attempting to evade its union contract by giving work to non-union subsidiaries.
