FAT MAN'S SENDS TRAVELERS PACKING, 3-2

Jon Mateczun came in to pitch a scoreless eighth inning, then singled in the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth as Fat Man's Pizza nipped Travelers, 3-2, in the Muny AAA League.

Before Meteczun, a Marietta College junior, could get the win, P.J. Byniarski sent the game to extra innings with a two-out home run in the bottom of the seventh for Fat Man's (5-1). Jeff Arber homered for Travelers (1-5).

Elsewhere, Norm Swann pitched a three-hitter as undefeated Leib's edged Avenue Pizza, 1-0. Swann struck out five and walked one to outduel Dan Prumba, who hurled a five-hitter and gave up a lone unearned run in the fourth inning. Leib's (6-0) ran its shutout streak to 22 innings and completed its fourth shutout of the season.

Paul Rokitka had a three-run triple and finished with five RBIs to power North Forest Civic Association (3-3) to a 7-2 victory over the Cardinals (2-3-1).

Erie-Niagara: Pete Welkley pounded a grand slam, a three-run homer and a three-run double for 10 RBIs as Alden (2-1) doubled Lancaster, 12-6, in a game shortened to five innings. Lancaster fell to 0-3.

Amherst City Mattress came up with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome Lockport Bus, 7-6, in a game called after six innings. Jim Militello singled home Rich Fink with the winning run. Tilo Mendiola went 4-for-4 for ACM (3-0). Lancaster Bus fell to 2-1.

Larry Schadd smacked a two-run home run and Brian Chriss and Dan Petock combined on a six-hitter as Adelphia Cable (2-1) clobbered Clarence, 10-1.

Stan Janicki drove in two runs and Brud Holley pitched Lockport DMI (2-1) to a 5-2 win over the Eldredge Club (1-2).

Lake Shore League: Kevin Sweeney's grand slam keyed Caldwell White Sox's six-run second inning in their 9-2 victory over the Kandefers. Mike Madigan gave up five hits while striking out eight for the Sox (5-0).

Mike Maurer ripped a three-run homer and Ron Yoviene added a home run among his three hits as Emerling Chevy (2-3) outslugged Cheektowaga, 11-7. Cheektowaga fell to 0-4.
