Marine Midland Bank has joined the team of major sponsors for the World University Games.
The decision to join 16 local and national companies who have signed on as major sponsors, individually contributing cash and in-kind donations valued at $100,00 to $1 million, is an investment in the Games success, said James H. Cleave, Marine president and chief executive officer. Marine will be the exclusive sponsor of the swimming competition, to be held in the new Erie Community College facility in downtown Buffalo. The six days of swimming competition during the Games will consist of preliminary events each morning and finals each evening.
In its capacity as a major sponsor, Marine will provide both monetary support and computer and telecommunications equipment to the event.
The signing of Marine is a very important element in the overall success of the Games, bringing them one step closer to the goal of generating $3.5 million in support by July 1, said Burt P. Flickinger Jr., Games chairman.
"Marine Midland has been an integral part of New York State for over 140 years, and their sponsorship demonstrates their continuing support for our community," Flickinger said.
"Since 1989, with Marine became a grand patron of the Games, we have watched this event unfold as something that will bring significant recognition to Western New York as a global host for these superb athletes. It is an honor to be part of this event," Cleave said.
The Games are scheduled for July 8-18.
