A body found in a field at 660 North Division St. was that of a man killed by a gunshot wound to the head, the Erie County medical examiner said after an autopsy Sunday.
The race and age of the man, discovered shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday by Buffalo police investigating a burglary, have not yet been determined.
Police are attempting to identify the man by means of dental records and fingerprints, but are being hampered by the body's advanced decomposition, according to Capt. Charles T. Fieramusca, chief of the Homicide Bureau.
It has not been determined how long the man had been dead or how long his body was in the field, police said.
The body was wrapped in sheets, bound with duct tape and covered with garbage bags when two police officers discovered it.
