A Town of Lancaster resident facing bank robbery charges in Ohio was arrested in Central New York, authorities said Friday.
David R. Bacchetti, 27, appeared in U.S. District Court in Syracuse on a robbery charge and was ordered to remain in custody until he is returned to Ohio. He is a suspect in an April 28 armed robbery of a bank in Highland Heights.
Bacchetti also faces state charges in connection with his attempted getaway, said state police.
He was arrested May 12 in Whitney Point. An employee at a Cortland fast food restaurant notified police after Bacchetti attempted to pay for a meal with a $50 bill. When the employee asked for something smaller, Bacchetti turned over a damp, faded $5 bill that aroused the worker's suspicions, state police said.
Bacchetti left the restaurant and was soon followed by police, who had discovered he was a possible bank robbery suspect. As he was pursued on Interstate 81, Bacchetti began tossing money out of his car window, police said. The money was later recovered.
