CARL P. SMITH

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Weeks Funeral Home, 123 N. Main St., Warsaw, for Carl P. Smith, 98, of Dutton Road. Burial will be in the Warsaw Cemetery.

He died Tuesday (May 18, 1993) in Veterans Hospital in Batavia.

Born in Warsaw, he was employed for 39 years as a rural letter carrier from the Warsaw Post Office. He retired in 1960.

He joined the U.S. Army during World War I, serving from April 1, 1918, until Feb. 19, 1919. He was a member of Wyoming Barracks 1381, World War I Veterans of the U.S.A., and the Walter Klein Post 532, American Legion, in Warsaw.

He also was a member of the Warsaw Immanuel United Methodist Church.

His first wife, the former Mabel Ruapp, died in 1983.

Survivors include his wife, the former Bertha Pforter; a son, Alvin of Leesburg, Fla.; a daughter, Audrey Gatgen of Frewsburg; three grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
