This season I have noticed a tremendous amount of negative reporting about Notre Dame football. These stories about steroid use, Lou Holtz's departure to the NFL, Raghib "Rocket" Ismail's departure to the NFL, etc., were false and malicious. Some blame it on Notre Dame's NBC television deal, or on pure jealousy.
Instead of quoting statistics to support Notre Dame or criticize the opposition, I would like to quote what Pat Haden, former USC quarterback, recently had to say about Notre Dame.
"We all recognize that we have our problems in intercollegiate athletics. But if anyone needs to be reminded what athletic competition can do for young men, all they need to do is turn their attention to this very special place. The University of Notre Dame is the beacon of intercollegiate athletics.
"I, like thousands of people across the country, have no real connection with Notre Dame other than observing the way it is. There is something very different about the student-athletes at Notre Dame. I can say that after having gone to every major college program in the country."
