ENDANGERMENT CHARGED IN ALDEN

An Alden man was charged with hitting a boy Friday, the day after Erie County sheriff's deputies arrested him on a charge of firing a rifle inside his house.

Darel M. Matthies, 41, of 1725 Sandridge Road, was arraigned Friday in Alden Town Court on a felony charge of reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor assault charge and three misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Matthies allegedly fired a rifle in his house near a 14-year-old boy on Sunday and hit the boy over the head with a telephone in separate incidents Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Matthies was jailed in lieu of $2,500 bail.
