Playwright Tom Stoppard and his wife, Miriam, are separating, they announced Monday.
The law firm of Harbottle and Lewis, in a statement to the British news agency Press Association, said: "Tom and Miriam Stoppard, who have amicably maintained separate residences for some time past, announced today that they have agreed on a legal separation."
Stoppard and his wife, both 53, have been married 18 years and have two sons. Stoppard has two other sons by a previous marriage.
Miriam Stoppard, a medical doctor, writes an advice column in the magazine TV Times.
