Layoffs of 10 Iroquois Central School District teachers are being considered as the district responds to an estimated $237,000 loss in 1990-91 state aid, a source said today.
Both board President Linda Riley and School Superintendent Lawrence Pereira refused to confirm or deny the potential layoffs.
"We are working on a package of proposals to meet the shortfall," Pereira said.
"The next regular meeting of the Board of Education is scheduled for Jan. 14, but the subject might come up when we have a budget workshop on Jan. 7."
The Iroquois schools, serving 2,500 students in the Elma, Marilla and Wales areas, had expected about $8.5 million in 1990-91 state aid.
