BOSTON GLOBE TO CUT WORK FORCE

The Boston Globe, citing declines in advertising, announced it will reduce its work force by 100 full-time positions through attrition over the next five years.

The 100 positions represent about 5 percent of the full-time staff at the Globe, which employs 2,075 full-time and 500 part-time workers.

The attrition program is another step in an overall cost-cutting effort at the Globe, which began budget cuts in the spring of 1988. It has also included reductions in department expenditures and in hours of some part-time staff.
