I suppose I should have known better. I should have realized that, with everything running so smoothly in the Bills' march to the Super Bowl, some Bills player was bound to mess it up.

It is truly unfortunate and disconcerting to read that Bruce Smith would choose such a time to campaign for MVP honors. The fact that he legitimately deserves MVP is irrelevant. What is relevant is the fact that Mr. Smith and his gargantuan ego is threatening to destroy the team's dream season by providing other teams extra incentive to beat us.

Smith talks about the one newspaper being "against us." What a load of hogwash! No one in this town is against him or the team. It has been a long, long time since the Bills have had the opportunity they have now. Too much hard work by the entire organization and too much support by the fans has gone into this season to ruin it now.

The Bills are poised on the brink. If Mr. Smith really wants to experience hostility, just let his mouth topple us over, for then he might have his coveted award, but he will also have the city and his teammates angry with him.
