Buffalo Area Metropolitan Ministries, the Western New York inter-faith organization, will sponsor a "multi-religious gathering in prayer for peace" at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, in First Presbyterian Church, 1 Symphony Circle.

The Rev. Craig French, a BAMM trustee and community minister for the Buffalo District of the United Methodist Church, said the service will offer the people of Western New York an opportunity to pray together for peace in the Persian Gulf.

Religious leaders who will lead the service include Bishop Edward D. Head of the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, Bishop David C. Bowman of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York, BAMM President Rabbi Eliot P. Marrus, who heads the Buffalo Area Board of Rabbis, and the Rev. Dr. Charles R. White, a Presbyterian minister who serves as executive director of BAMM.

Masses in cemeteries offered

Christmas season Masses will be offered at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in three Buffalo-area Roman Catholic cemeteries as follows:

Retired Auxiliary Bishop Bernard J. McLaughlin will offer a Mass in the Holy Family Chapel Mausoleum in Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Elmwood Ave., Kenmore; Monsignor Stanley A. Ropelski, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Lackawanna, will offer a Mass in Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, Holy Cross Cemetery, 2900 South Park Ave., Lackawanna, and Monsignor William J. Stillwell, pastor of St. Mary of the Cataract Parish, Niagara Falls, will offer a Mass in Gate of Heaven Chapel Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 500 Riverdale Ave., Lewiston.

Clergy reassigned by bishop

Bishop Edward D. Head of the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo has announced the appointment of new pastors at four parishes and other clergy reassignments.

Monsignor Robert K. Golombek, formerly pastor of St. John Kanty Parish, Buffalo, has been named pastor of Blessed Sacrament Parish, Kenmore, effective immediately.

The Rev. Thomas J. Quinlivan, who has been serving as parochial vicar at St. Mary of the Angels Parish, Olean, becomes pastor there, effectively immediately. He succeeds Monsignor William J. Gallagher, who recently became rector of St. Joseph's Cathedral.

The Rev. James L. Breitnauer, who has been pastor of St. Agatha's, Buffalo, becomes pastor of St. William's Parish, Winchester, effective immediately. He succeeds the Rev. Joseph A. Scharmach who recently died.

The Rev. John W. Zeitler, who has been serving as administrator of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Lake View, becomes pastor there.

The Rev. Thomas J. McCarthy, formerly parochial vicar at Our Lady of Victory Basilica, Lackawanna, moves to the same position at St. Mary of the Angels Parish, Olean.

In addition, Bishop Head has confirmed the appointments of the Rev. Luciano M. Visconti, a member of the Barnabite Fathers, to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, Youngstown, and the Rev. Gregory Kwapisz, a member of the Conventual Franciscan Friars, as parochial vicar of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Athol Springs.
