Additional mathematics courses will be offered at Maryvale High School to encourage more students to earn a Regents diploma.
The new courses will enable students to meet the math requirements for the Regents by taking a sequence of four one-year courses, covering the same content as now offered in two one-year courses and electives.
The new courses will permit students to spend more time learning the course material. The present courses, covering the material in two years, and a third-year course, covering more advanced material, will continue to be offered in addition to the new courses.
The School Board approved the course plans this week, and also reviewed the comprehensive assessment report. School officials said Maryvale scored well on standardized tests in comparison with similarly sized districts.
