Dr. Robert Reza, a prominent Bayport physician, was charged with second-degree murder Thursday in the death of his wife, Suffolk County police said.
Marilyn Reza, 47, was found dead in her bed Dec. 12. The medical examiner determined she had been shot in the head and strangled.
Mrs. Reza's body was found by a neighbor after her co-workers called when she did not show up for work at the Suffolk County Pulmonary Association in Patchogue, where she worked with her husband.
Reza had told detectives he had gone to Washington Dec. 10 and that he was there until being notified of his wife's death on Dec. 12.
But an investigation revealed that the doctor had returned to New York late on Dec. 11 and then returned to Washington early the following day, police said.
