Inquiries about donating personal items for Americans serving in Operation Desert Shield should be directed to the U.S. Defense Department, a spokesman for the state Division of Military and Naval Affairs said Thursday.
Lt. Col. P.C. Kutschera, spokesman for the National Guard in Albany, said that although the Guard has provided some assistance in the past to send items to the Persian Gulf, "All future donation efforts have to be coordinated directly with the Defense Logistics Agency." That agency can be reached at (703) 274-3561.
"The Defense Logistics Agency has clearly indicated that transportation to the point where the goods can be received by the military will be at donors' expense," he added.
