The U.S. Coast Guard and state environmental officials indicated Thursday they would investigate a claim that a cruise yacht company was dumping raw sewage from vessels moored at a Hudson River pier.
The president of Circle Line, which owns World Yachts and its six vessels, said the craft complied fully with marine sanitation laws and are inspected every year by the Coast Guard.
"The report that we are dumping sewage is totally unfounded," August Ceradini said in a telephone interview. He attributed the allegation to "disgruntled former employees."
Maser said some types of shipboard sanitation devices can treat sewage for legal discharge.
