A new master of science degree program in manufacturing engineering will be offered at the Cattaraugus County Campus of Jamestown Community College beginning Jan. 7.
College spokeswoman Tammy Crawford said the program was begun as a result of requests from employees at several area industries, including Olean's Dresser-Rand.
She said the company started the idea by researching various employee-training programs available and, together with JCC, selected one developed by GMI Engineering and Management Institute of Flint, Mich.
GMI enrolls nearly 3,000 undergraduate and 500 graduate students at its Michigan location. The school's graduate programs are also offered via videotape at nearly 50 corporate employer locations throughout the United States, Ms. Crawford said.
"This program is a classic example of partnership between industry and education," said Jesse Gugino, director of continuing education at the Cattaraugus County Campus.
