John F. Wayda, 50, manager of the credit union at Occidental Chemical Corp., died Wednesday (Dec. 19, 1990) at his home on Munson Avenue after a short illness.
A native of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Wayda moved to Niagara Falls 48 years ago. He served in the Air Force from 1963 to 1968 and was a graduate of the University at Buffalo.
He was manager of the credit union for the last eight years. Before that, he worked for 19 years at Niagara County Savings Bank.
Wayda was past president of the Holy Name Society, past co-president of the Home School Association, co-president of the Parish Council, co-captain of the bingo team and a member of the school advisory board, all at St. John de LaSalle Catholic Church. He also was a committee leader in the Boy Scouts of America and a former vice president in Little League baseball.
Survivors include his wife, the former Shirley Sommer; two sons, John A. and David E.; a daughter, Mariann A.; his father and stepmother, John A. and Katherine Wayda of Leeds, Ala., and two sisters, Jeanne Zimmerman and Rose Edwards.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. John de LaSalle Church, 8469 Buffalo Ave., after prayers at 9 in the Lane Funeral Home, 8622 Buffalo Ave. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
