Grand Island's receiver of taxes and assessment, Lois I. Kaiser, will have served the town for more than 39 years when she retires at the end of the year.

In submitting her resignation to the Town Board, Mrs. Kaiser recommended and the board appointed her deputy, Marleen McCarthy, to serve the remainder of her term which expires Dec. 31, 1991.

Mrs. Kaiser has taken part in collecting taxes in the town since 1951. She assisted her husband without compensation when he was elected that year, and later served as a paid deputy when Grand Island attained the status of a first-class town.

Mrs. Kaiser became the first woman to hold the post when the Town Board appointed her in 1982 to the office to which she was later elected.
