Chemical Fabrics Corp., the parent of Birdair Structures Inc. and Chemfab New York Inc. of Cheektowaga, has agreed to pay $1.7 million to settle a lawsuit stemming from the 1981 collapse of the Metrodome roof in Minneapolis.

The settlement clears Chemfab from any other claims relating to the design and construction of the stadium's fabric roof. Chemfab said it maintains that the roof was built properly and in accordance with the requirements of the contract.

In April, the company lost a lawsuit related to the collapse and took a $2.9 million charge against its second-quarter earnings to cover the $3.5 million judgment against the firm. Because of the recent settlement, that judgment will be dismissed.
