Building fees will go up Jan. 1 in Cheektowaga to $400 for a typical $100,000 project.
The Town Board has increased the fees to bring in a projected $26,000 to provide additional personnel in the building inspection office. A new position of zoning inspector, with a starting salary of $27,481, has been added effective Jan. 1. An assistant building inspector position will be added July 1.
The fee increases will weigh heavily on commercial projects, and will place the town's scale in the middle in comparison with neighboring communities, said Ronald S. Marten, supervising building inspector. Fees will be lower than Amherst's, a little higher than West Seneca's and similar to the Town of Tonawanda's, he added.
For a typical $100,000 building, the fee will increase by $150 to $400 he said.
