A judge Wednesday increased the bail of Carl V. Stewart of Buffalo by $20,000 on two sexual assault charges after prosecutors told him the victims were beaten in the defendant's home.
Erie County Judge Timothy J. Drury set bail for Stewart -- who is awaiting retrial on a murder charge -- at $50,000, which had been sought by prosecutors.
He has been indicted on several charges in a Nov. 19 attack on a 32 year-old woman and a Nov. 26 attack on a 16-year-old girl. Both incidents took place in his Riley Street home, according to authorities.
Prosecutor Nancy Laffey Hart said both females were beaten on the face and neck after accepting rides from Stewart, 34.
An Erie County grand jury Wednesday charged him with rape, sodomy, sex abuse, attempted rape, robbery and endangering the welfare of a child.
