WOMAN IN AIDS SCARE CHARGED IN VICE CASE

A woman whose arrest last year sparked an AIDS scare among officers on the Buffalo police vice squad Tuesday pleaded innocent to charges of prostitution and resisting arrest.

City Judge Michael F. Pietruszka released Carmen Rodriquez, 39, of Hickory Street on her own recognizance with the stipulation that she take a syphilis test. She was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Monday after being accused of soliciting an undercover vice detective.

Judges cannot order testing for AIDS.

According to police, Ms. Rodriquez tried to scratch Lt. James McCann last January when he arrested her in his unmarked police car at Richmond and Porter avenues after she asked him for a ride at the corner of Cottage and College streets and solicited him for sex.
