Korea. Vietnam. And now Iraq?
We cannot believe that we may be on the verge of yet another undeclared and unnecessary war in which tens of thousands of lives may be lost -- 95 percent of them American. For Iraq, we get different reasons as the mood in Washington changes.
What it comes down to, though, is the price of oil.
If it does come to military conflict, God forbid, we will be fighting the wrong battle. The war should be one of energy conservation. The spectacle of President Bush and James Baker hopscotching the globe in search of support for a war which no one but the president seems to want is a sad and ridiculous one.
We would be fighting a war against an army of overwhelming forces which would be defending its own country on its own ground. What folly. If President Bush drags us into yet another undeclared war in defiance of both the Constitution and the War Powers Act of 1973, he should be impeached.
