EDEN VOTERS REJECT MOVE TO AN APPOINTED ASSESSOR

The Town of Eden will continue to use three elected assessors following the defeat Tuesday of a proposal to change to a system using one assessor appointed by the Town Board.

More than 800 voters turned out despite the rain to cast ballots at the Eden Town Hall and the East Eden Fire Hall, defeating the proposal by a vote of 631 to 187.

The Town Board had voted Sept. 27 to eliminate the elected assessors in favor of an appointive post, and Tuesday's special election gave voters the final say in the matter.
