ACADEMICALLY INCLINED LOSING OUT IN AID RACE

As a senior in high school, I have a lot to think about. With graduation coming up, I also have to worry about getting into college. But I find that's not my biggest problem. Paying for my college education is what has me biting my nails.

What I have noticed in my hunt for scholarships and financial aid is that more "full ride" scholarships to good colleges are given to athletes than to students who excel academically. I'm not putting down those who have trained in their sport and worked hard to get where they are, but what about those who don't play sports but maintain an excellent academic average?

It's good that people who otherwise would not go to college get a chance to continue their education because they excel in sports, but it's a sad reflection on the American value system that those who do well academically are not given the same opportunities.
