A memorial Mass for William H. Lewis, a retired ship captain who operated supply boats for more than 40 years on the Buffalo waterfront, will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 193 Elk St.
Lewis died Nov. 16, 1990, in Lakeland, Fla. He was 77.
Born in Alabama, Lewis came to Buffalo as a young man. He was a licensed captain and ferried seamen and supplies to commercial vessels.
He lived on Selkirk Street in South Buffalo for many years. His wife, Virginia, died in 1977.
Lewis moved to Florida when he retired in 1982.
He is survived by a son, William G. of Kansas; a daughter, Yvette Allen; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
