The Interstate Commerce Commission voted unanimously today to ban smoking on all regularly scheduled interstate bus service in the United States.

Charter bus companies were given the option of allowing passengers to smoke if the passengers on a charter bus agreed. The ban will take effect within a few weeks.

Lawyers for the ICC said smoking has been proved to be injurious to health and tobacco smoke cannot be adequately ventilated from buses to assure the health and comfort of non-smokers.
