CORFU MAN DIES, DEPUTY HURT IN CRASH INVOLVING PATROL CAR

A two-car collision involving a Genesee County sheriff's patrol car left a Corfu man dead early today and a deputy hospitalized with hand and leg injuries, the Sheriff's Department reported.

The victim, Russell J. Baylor Sr., 46, of Hartshorn Road, Corfu, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Harold Mitchell after the 3:19 a.m. crash on Route 20, just west of Cook Road in the Town of Pavilion.

Deputy Timothy Weis, 25, was treated for hand and leg injuries and released from Genesee Memorial Hospital, Batavia.

According to sheriff's deputies, Baylor was en route to work in Manchester, heading east on Route 20, when his vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with Weis' marked patrol car.
