As the mother of a daughter who is with the U.S. Army Reserve's 365th Evacuation Hospital, which has been activated, I would like to reply to a letter in this column Dec. 6.
My daughter is a nurse in the Army Reserve. Her training was earned and paid for before she volunteered to serve her country. What her job requires is not a free ride. It is a very demanding job. But she does her duty well.
I believe if it were not for these reservists we would still have the draft. I imagine there are a lot of young civilians out there that are happy the reserves were there to be called up.
Those of us with loved ones in the Middle East will be missing them. We won't be having them with us in the coming holidays, but we know they will be back home soon -- safe and sound. We need your support, not your cold opinions.
