A 21-year-old man was arrested by Niagara County sheriff's deputies today and charged with impersonating a police officer.
Robert Josey of Colonial Drive, identified by deputies as a volunteer firefighter, was arraigned before Town Justice Roderick O'Donnell on charges of criminal impersonation, a felony, resisting arrest, escaping from police custody, driving while intoxicated and disorderly conduct.
Deputy Maurice Britt said the man apparently used a blue light on his vehicle to pull a tractor-trailer to the side of the road on Route 31 near Miller Road at about 3 a.m. today and began questioning the driver about weight limits.
Britt said he was only moments away when he received a call to investigate and caught the man at the scene. He said there was a scuffle and a brief chase before the suspect was apprehended.
Josey was taken to the Niagara County Jail and held in lieu of $2,000 bail for a future court appearance.
The investigation is continuing.
