RESERVISTS DESERVING OF COMPASSION, RESPECT

A letter writer states that he feels no pity for our service members taking part in Operation Desert Shield. What a sad nation it would be if all our citizens were as cold and calculating. If he can find no compassion in his heart for our service men and women, I doubt that he feels much compassion for any member of the human race.

My daughter's Army Reserve unit, the 365th Medical Evacuation Hospital, is on its way to the Persian Gulf. My heart aches for all these men and women and their loved ones being left behind to wonder when and if they'll be together again.

These reservists are leaving with pride and dignity -- not cries of "why me?" They work hard at civilian jobs, besides giving the Army a weekend a month and two weeks in the summer. Anyone looking for a "free ride" from the government would not be inclined to put in so many hours at two jobs.
