ANDOVER YOUTH, 16, TRIES TO HANG HIMSELF IN JAIL

A 16-year-old Andover youth remained in critical condition today, two days after he attempted to hang himself in the Allegany County Jail.

The youth, whose name was not released, had been in the jail since Sunday, when he was charged with third-degree assault and fourth-degree attempted criminal mischief for incidents in Wellsville. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.

He and another youth are accused of trying to stuff potatoes into the exhaust pipes of some Wellsville police patrol cars outside the police station.
