TAX DEPARTMENT SEIZES 2 AREA FIRMS FOR BACK SALES TAXES

The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance Monday seized two area businesses for nonpayment of back taxes.

Christopher's Florist Inc., 2298 Niagara Falls Blvd., Tonawanda, was seized, closed and its doors padlocked for nonpayment of about $11,000 in back sales taxes for various periods of time in 1987, 1988 and 1990.

Snoopy's Pizzeria, 9544 Lakeshore Road, Angola, also was seized by the Taxation and Finance Department for owing about $9,000 in back sales taxes. Taxes are due from various periods in 1988, 1989 and 1990.

The owners of both establishments must come up with the amounts due within about 10 business days or the businesses will be auctioned off, with all proceeds applied to reducing the debts.

The Taxation and Finance Department also has the option of instituting a deferred payment plan, in which 50 percent of the amount due is paid upfront, and the remainder paid over a period not exceeding 24 months.
