Guard Dan Popadick scored 22 points Monday night and Canisius used some sharpshooting from the free-throw line to wrap up a 66-55 non-league victory over visiting Kenmore East.
Canisius (2-0) hit 27 of 36 attempts from the line, many over the final three minutes. Popadick had some key steals in the same span to set up the opportunities.
Gregg Shea added 21 points and 11 rebounds for Canisius. Jeff Tricoli had 14 rebounds. Gary Welgoss led East with 21 points and Ken Warren netted 12.
A 10-2 run early in the fourth period allowed St. Joe's (2-0) to overcome a five-point deficit and beat North Tonawanda, 67-61. Eric Eberz led the Marauders with 29 points and Mike Cullinan added 14. Jason Nepokroeff led NT (1-1) with 26.
Guard Steve Kull had 10 of his 28 points in the third quarter as Timon (2-0) pulled away from West Seneca West, 68-41. Jeff Muszynski added 17 points for the winners.
Grand Island (1-2) pulled away from Royalton-Hartland, 83-58, as junior forward Anthony Scott scored 14 of his game-high 25 points in a 23-11 third-quarter run. Chris Tassy added 11 for Grand Island. Brandon Harrington led Roy-Hart with 15.
Jim Brennan scored 20 points, while Kevin Coad added 14 as Kenmore West (1-2) tripped Seneca, 66-53. Seneca got 13 points from Deshon Cook.
