A number of activities have been planned by the Downtown Revitalization Committee to bring people to the downtown area during the holiday season.
On Thursday and Friday, Santa Claus, the elves and Frosty the Snowman will be downtown from noon to 9 p.m. They will distribute candy canes and collect non-perishable food items for the needy. They also will appear at the D & F Plaza from noon to 9 p.m. Dec. 20 and 21. People can give presents to Santa Claus that he will give in turn to the Salvation Army and the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Youth Organization Food Kitchen for distribution.
On Friday, a ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the steps of City Hall to honor the local people serving in Operation Desert Shield. Caroling will follow.
On Saturday, Santa's workshop will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Masonic Building. The Dunkirk Recreation Department will sponsor the program that will include creating gifts, crafts and a visit from Santa.
A parking meter decorating contest will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the winners announced at 5 p.m. The decorations will remain throughout the holiday season. A spaghetti dinner with Santa will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. in the atrium.
