The Buffalo Sabres are in desperate need of a heart transplant. It is hard to believe that coach Rick Dudley will continue to accept such a lack of intensity shown by his team. Maybe Duds ought to submit his Christmas shopping list to General Manager Gerry Meehan a few weeks early.
Clint Malarchuk must be commended for his stellar play in goal. However, he can not shoulder the load all by himself. Too bad Phil Housley is not still around to blame. A leader must emerge from amongst the so-called "stars" of this team: Pierre Turgeon, Dale Hawerchuk, Dave Andreychuk.
Mike Foligno continues to wear the "C" on his sweater for what seems to designate "cameo" for his infrequent forays on the ice. Foligno has contributed a great deal to this organization and should not be left twisting in the trade winds.
At the start of the season, there were such great expectations for this team; dare we say Stanley Cup aspirations. So far this team has shown no indication it can end the streak of bowing out of the playoffs in the first round. While such clever anecdotes such as "the need to develop chemistry" or "we need to become focused" are bandied about by the players, here is another one to add to their repertoire, "take a look in the mirror."
