I would personally like to take my hat off to Jerry Sullivan for his defense of Buffalo. He managed to discredit every word of Paul Solotaroff's article bashing Buffalo as well as Buffalonians. Mr. Solotaroff's article, which appeared in the weekend edition of The National, bashed everything from weather, the ratio of bars to churches in the winter season, and referred to our existence during the winter as a house arrest. What made Sullivan's rebuttal even more satisfying is that Sullivan himself is a relative newcomer to Buffalo.
One would have expected this reaction from (Larry) Felser, (Vic) Carucci, (Bob) DiCesare, and even Bob Curran all of whom are mainstays in Buffalo, as well as The Buffalo News. Sullivan reached out and defended Buffalo as if he had lived here all of his life.
On behalf of the people who read your work religiously, and the citizens who are tired of Buffalo bashing, I would like to welcome Jerry Sullivan and his family to Buffalo and I hope he remains for a very long time.
