TREE TRIMMING -- Debbie Targon of Youngstown notes that the Christmas tree pictured Monday in several editions of The Buffalo News as part of a display at Village Hall was decorated by her and her three children, Dawn, 14; Michael, 10, and Amanda, 5.
The children wanted to trim the tree in honor of their dad, Michael, a Reservist with the 914th Tactical Airlift Group serving in Operation Desert Shield.
Mrs. Targon said she and the children collected photos and addresses of others serving in the gulf so that visitors to the Youngstown display could send them season's greetings. . . .
A GOOD ACT -- The actors in the South Buffalo Theatre's presentation of "Christmas Fables" will be giving their best, and they ask that the audience do the same. Patrons who attend the comedy and musical revue at Okell Street and South Park Avenue (in the building behind the South Park Police Station) are asked to bring a food item for the South Buffalo Food Pantry in keeping with the Christmas spirit.
The production, directed by John Fanning, can be seen at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 7 p.m. next Sunday. Tickets cost $3. . . .
FOR SOUP KITCHENS -- Local food pantries for the poor will receive all proceeds from a holiday concert sponsored by the North Buffalo Kiwanis Club at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 19 in McKinley High School, 1500 Elmwood Ave. Entertainment will be provided by the swing choir, glee club and LaSallian Singers of St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute. Kiwanis organizer Tony Maggiotto says tickets at the door will be $2 for adults and $1 for students and senior citizens. . . .
