SHERIFF'S DEPT. PATROL CAR STRIKES JAMESTOWN GIRL, 7

A 7-year-old Jamestown girl escaped with minor injuries Thursday afternoon when witnesses said she ran into the path of a Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department patrol car.

City police said Erica Stewart of 25 W. 12th St. was hit when she crossed Washington Street near West 18th Street. She was treated in WCA Hospital for facial injuries and released.

The patrol car was driven by Deputy John Crossley who said he was unable to avoid the child. The investigation is continuing but police said they expect no charges will be filed, based on interviews with witnesses.
