This is in response to a letter to the editor titled "Those who wanted college money may die before they get to college," which appeared Nov. 25.
Some students choose to fight for their country while others write letters. Any time there is a military conflict, citizens line up on both sides of the issue.
There is no draft in the country at this time. All the people in the military have volunteered to defend their country as well as the rights of other countries that depend on this great country for their survival. It is very easy to sit back and enjoy the benefits of living in a society as great as ours, but some people are called on to make great sacrifices to defend the rights of others.
When someone chooses to enter the military to earn money for college, he or she is well aware that they may be called to active duty.
If being called up for active duty to defend a country like Kuwait is a problem for the letter writer, then maybe she should have her friends find other ways of getting money for college.
