PASSENGER SERIOUSLY HURT IN ORCHARD PARK CAR CRASH

Rebecca Scharf, 39, of Teachers Lane, Orchard Park, was in serious condition today in Erie County Medical Center with injuries suffered when a car in which she was riding left the road and hit an embankment about 5:20 a.m. at Southwestern Boulevard and South Benzing Road, Orchard Park.

The driver, Bruce Randon, 44, of Orchard Park, was charged with driving while intoxicated and not wearing a seat belt, police said.

Ms. Scharf was freed from the wreckage by volunteers from the Windom and Orchard Park fire departments.

She was taken to the Medical Center by Mercy Flight.

Police said Randon was treated for less serious injuries.
