2-DAY TELETHON TO AID FIREFIGHTERS TOY FUND

The Firefighters Christmas Toy Fund will hold its annual Leo F. Heck Telethon from noon to 2 a.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday on Adelphia Cable Channel 3.

After the first "Wake-a-Thon," a 33-hour cable TV broadcast that raised $2,400 in 1974, the fund expanded to include the Nursing Home Dinner and the Aid to Needy Families. By 1988, the telethon raised nearly $30,000.

Last year, at the annual Nursing Home Dinner, 650 nursing home residents were bused to the American Legion Portage Post for a turkey dinner and full-day of entertainment. The Aid to Needy Families Division provided food and toys for 65 needy families and clothes for 220 children.
