PLANS FOR EXPANDING 2 SCHOOLS ADVANCE ORCHARD PARK RECEIVES OK FROM STATE EDUCATION DEPT.

The $2.6 million expansion of Ellicott Road Elementary and the $440,000 expansion of South Davis Elementary schools in Orchard Park are a step closer to construction.

Richard Petrus, assistant superintendent for business, told the School Board Tuesday night that the state Education Department approved the expansion plans for the two schools Nov. 26.

Bids for the two projects will be opened Jan. 4.

Petrus said he expects to recommend a contractor to the board and present a completion schedule at the Jan. 15 board meeting.

Plans for the $3 million expansion of Windom Elementary and the $2.6 million expansion of Eggert Elementary schools were forwarded to Albany for approval Monday, Petrus said, adding that he hopes to receive approval in "eight to 10 weeks."

In another matter, the board appointed Susan Druzbik as coordinator of special education.

Ms. Druzbik, formerly a principal and director of residential education for Gateway Youth and Family Services, will replace Joseph Yelich who is retiring.

Ms. Druzbik's three-year appointment is effective Jan. 2. Her annual salary will be $55,000.
