IS RECYCLING MOVEMENT 'ALL A BUNCH OF HYPE?'

The issue of protecting our environment and making the most of our resources has become a major topic of concern. The students in one of the government classes at Royalton-Hartland Central High School have realized that present actions will affect our future.

As interested citizens, we have attempted to structure a recycling program for office paper within our school system. However, the recycling companies that we have contacted have been less than cooperative with our efforts in this situation. We have experienced meetings with recyling personnel who are uninformed and unable to answer our immediate questions on acceptable recyclables and/or preparation for pick-ups. Representatives have also failed to appear for scheduled interviews and meetings without proper notification.

These people are supposed to offer help and encouragement in recycling. It is their job and hopefully part of their goals for our future world, yet when approached they leave us with frustration. Are we really concerned with our production of waste or is this all a bunch of hype?
