A family of four safely fled their burning two-story home here early today, and three Chautauqua County fire departments had to battle snow, cold and gusty winds fighting the fire.
Volunteers from Clymer, Findley Lake and Sherman needed about an hour to put out the fire at the Brent Beebe home on Reagan Road. Sherman firefighters answered the first alarm about 1:30 a.m.
Beebe, his wife and their two children escaped safely.
One firefighter injured his leg when he fell through the second floor. He was treated at the scene and sent home.
Clymer Fire Chief Merton Querreveld said damage to the frame dwelling was extensive.
The fire started near a wood stove but fire investigators will be called in to pinpoint the cause, Querreveld said.
