ART AND MUSIC NOTES

The Nina Freudenheim Gallery, 300 Delaware Ave., will feature new works by Gail McCarthy and Don Wynn, Saturday through Jan. 9. Ceramic artist McCarthy will exhibit works from her "Gilded Vessel" series; Wynn will exhibits paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor. A reception for the artists will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

"Back to the Earth, American Landscapes," an exhibit by Robin Mols, will be displayed from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday in Black Forest Gallery, 410 Elmwood Ave. Most of the works -- paintings, drawings and sculpture -- were completed in and around Aspen, Colo.

"Off the Wall," a special show of works from selected New York galleries and the Area Artists' Collection, will open Tuesday and remain in place through Jan. 20 in the Members' Gallery of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. The show will include works of Frank Stella, A.R. Penck, Robert Indiana, Manel Lledos, Bruce Nauman, James Brown, Jane Hammond, John Baldessari, Ellsworth Kelly, Joel Shapiro, Howard Hodgkin, Tim Rollin & K.O.S., and Tony Cragg.

The Barbara Schuller Gallery, 345 Franklin St., will feature the exhibit "Deck the Walls," Thursday through Dec. 21. The show will open with a portfolio preview of watercolor vignettes of Buffalo architectural landmarks by Rita Argen Auerbach, from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Holiday receptions will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The show will feature works of Auerbach and Susan Barnes, Adele Becker, Lee Bergwall, Peg Bothner, Todd Chalk, Carla Cheman, Bill Doolittle, Sally Duback, Robert Flock, Susan Verble Gantner, Donna Ioviero, Terri Katz Kazimov, James Kuo, David Pratt, Walter Prochownik, Russell Ram, Rena Reisman and Wendy Warner.
The Community Music School will present student soloists and the school's Jazz Ensemble, director Carol McLaughlin, in the annual Holiday Recital Fest, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the school, 415 Elmwood Ave.

"Cantors Sing Broadway: An Evening of Sondheim" will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Temple Beth Am, 4660 Sheridan Drive. Cantors Mark and Barbara Horowitz of the host temple, and Cantor Aviva Katzman of Temple Shalom Chicago will perform.

Soloist Steve Amerson will join duo pianists Steve Nielson and Ovid Young in a sacred music concert at 8 p.m. Monday in the Buffalo Christian Center, 512 Pearl St.

Harriet Simons will direct the UB Choir in concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, and the UB Chorus at 8 p.m. Tuesday, both in Slee Hall, University at Buffalo North Campus.

The Jamestown Choral Society will present the area premiere of Roland Martin's "The Promise," at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in First Covenant Church, Jamestown. Members of the Murrysville Festival Chorus will join in the program.

The Genesee Baroque Players, director Dana Maiben, will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, and Madrigalia, Rochester-based vocal ensemble directed by Roger Wilhelm will present a holiday concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, both in the Lancaster Opera House, 21 Central Ave., Lancaster.

The Villa Maria Chorale will present a seasonal program at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Villa Maria College auditorium, 240 Pine Ridge Road. The program will include works of Buxtehude, Haydn, Donizetti and Christmas carols from around the world.
